Randal and Shelly met as members of their college choir and quickly fell in love. Both sensed a call to music ministry, which led to them studying music at Evangel University in Springfield, MO. Shelly studied voice and Randal focused on piano performance and choral conducting.
After they “tied the knot,” they began serving in music ministry in Colorado Springs, CO. Over the next 27 years they served in five churches, the last 20 in two churches, Capital Christian Center in Sacramento, CA and James River Church in Ozark, MO. The joy of their life, however, was and is the three daughters, Elise, Lauren, and Aubrey, that blessed their home. Now, a son-in-law, Ryan Seler and granddaughter, Rosie James, adds to their joy.
As a doctoral student at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Randal developed a burden for the people of Boston, including students in area music colleges. Over the course of several years, their calling crystalized, which led to them planting Anchor Church on a snowy February evening in 2013. They love pastoring this vibrant community of young professionals, students, and families.
